10618NAT – Course in Firearms Safety (approved for firearms licensing in Queensland)
To apply for a QLD Weapons Licence you are required to successfully complete a firearm safety course in the category or categories you wish to apply for. Once the student has successfully completed the firearms safety course, a nationally recognised statement of attainment will be issued to the student which will reflect the units of competence completed on the firearms safety course. (Certificates are valid for a period of 12 months)

Throughout the duration of the firearm safety courses, students will receive first class education in the basic fundamentals of safe firearms handling, safety whilst using a firearm, complying with storage requirements, procedures for transporting firearms in a vehicle, what it means to be a “Fit and Proper Person” educating students in legal and ethical requirements, required skills and knowledge needed to stay compliant, firearm maintenance, Weapons Licensing QLD, applying for your firearms licence and more.
Then, at the end of the firearm safety course, there will be a competency based assessment made up of multiple choice and true or false questions that the student needs to successfully complete. That assessment will reflect the subjects covered throughout the firearm safety course in alignment with the course outline, designed by the Queensland Police Service and Weapons Licensing Queensland.
Throughout the firearm safety course students will experience an engaging and interactive classroom environment filled with thought provoking topics, classroom based firearms handling skills, learning functionality of the firearms and real life events that will make for a memorable and enjoyable day of firearms safety training.
QLD Firearms Training conducts their firearm safety courses at the SSAA Brisbane range, class sizes may vary.
8 hour face to face classroom delivery, theory, practical handling and live fire components on an approved range.

WEAPONS LICENCE APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
Anyone 18 years of age or over may apply for a Queensland Weapons Licence provided they satisfy the following criteria:
- Are a resident of Queensland. (proof of address required on application)
- Are a fit and proper person.
- Have not, within the past five years, been convicted of a disqualifying offence including misuse of drugs, misuse of weapons, the use or threatened use of violence, or been the subject of a domestic violence protection order.
- Have a genuine reason for a licence.
- Can demonstrate appropriate training in the safe use of firearms.
- Have access to secure storage.
- Persons 11 to 17 years of age may apply for a Minor’s Licence.
